Word Puzzles

We found a programme (Teacher’s Pet) which makes word puzzles such as crosswords, find missing letters, word search, etc.  It’s a great tool for raising awareness of Fairtrade and as a promotional tool (eg printing it in local papers with or without prizes, etc).

Stickers

‘We support Fairtrade’ stickers can be made and collected for free from Fairtrade outlets in town.  When we find prizes (perhaps from local businesses such as restaurants?) ‘Spot the sticker’ competition can be used (eg when a member of our committee spots a car showing the sticker, the number plate can be announced and the prize collected. May also be used on house windows. 

Vouchers

We have contact with companies that sell promotional vouchers such as ‘Flights to New York for £10’, ‘2 for 1 tickets for golf, discos, etc’, ‘Euroexpress for £1’, etc.  This are the same vouchers used by large corporations such as ASDA, Motorola, Orange, etc.  Their prices vary but cost about £8 each on average and there is usually a minimum order of 50. They can be given  as prizes (eg stickers campaign above, customers proof of purchase of a determined amount of Fairtrade products, etc).  Please check this space for details of how to get them.

ISP Registration

When the Group becomes a registered charity, we will be able to register with CharityDays, a internet connection provider which gives 60% of the takings to the chosen charity of your choice. This means that the CharityDays can be advertised in the town and, anybody registering with them, will have the choice to select our Group to donate their money as they surf.  CharityDays has an excellent service and cheaper than all the other ones we’ve looked at (e.g. connect for 20 hours a week for just under £9 a month. 20 hours a week is A LOT of time!)

Fairtrade logo in flowers

We are going to see about having a Fairtrade logo made up of flowers in Allison Green (green area by the centre of the town) or the Park.  Initial talks to some members of ‘Strathaven in Bloom’ project indicate that they might be interested in helping.  It’s a good idea to involve other projects in town and work together!

Bus adverts

Depending on funding, we would like to put a plaque at the rear of local buses advertising the fact that we’re a Fairtrade town, with logo etc (throughout the year or just before and during Fairtrade Fortnight.
